Denmark is reducing border controls with Sweden starting Thursday. Periodic spot checks will replace the fixed checks, according to a press release from the Danish police.

The decision will facilitate entry and shorten the waiting time for those commuting across the strait. According to Sydsvenskan, Danish police will take into account the frequency of traffic and the checks may be concentrated during rush hour periods.

Denmark closed its borders during the escalation of the corona pandemic, but has gradually opened up to Swedes over the summer. Swedes from all counties are now free to travel into the country.

At airports, random checks will be carried out on travellers coming from countries within the Schengen area. For quarantine countries, the fixed checks will remain in place.

The fixed border controls with Germany will also be eased.
