Denmark extends border controls until 2022

Remove

Denmark is extending border controls with Sweden until May 2022.

The country's government notified the EU of the decision at the end of last week, according to a letter signed by Minister of Justice Nick Hækkerup.

The government cites the threat from militant Islamists and organized crime as a reason for the extension.

The border controls were introduced in the fall of 2019 as part of a security package focused on organized crime. Not all travelers are checked.
