German airline Lufthansa and the Italian government have now agreed on a final price for a larger stake in Italian state-owned airline ITA Airways. The acquisition is now said to be able to be completed as early as Monday evening.
This was reported by Bloomberg News on Monday, citing sources with insight.
The acquisition of ITA, which has been planned since 2023, ran into some turbulence last week when Lufthansa asked for a discount on the original purchase price of 325 million euros for 41 percent of the company, as it was considered that the value had significantly decreased since the 2023 agreement.
Lufthansa's demand was subsequently met with resistance from the Italian government, but after continued negotiations, the transaction is now close, according to the sources.
Representatives for Lufthansa, Italy's finance minister and ITA Airways did not comment to the news agency.
