A new direct flight from Beijing to Copenhagen will start in May, which is of great importance for Skåne's accessibility in the growing Chinese market.

Air China's initiative is one in a series of successes for the collaboration within Greater Copenhagen.

The work on accessibility has been ongoing for several years, and has resulted in a total of 31 new routes to Copenhagen Airport since 2010. Last autumn, Air India started direct flights from Delhi. And now in May, it is the Chinese Air China that is inaugurating a new route with four departures per week. It has also been announced that Cathay Pacific will open a new route between Hong Kong and Copenhagen in May.

China is a growing market for Skåne's tourism industry
The number of guest nights in Skåne from the Chinese market has increased significantly in recent years. In 2017, up to and including November, Skåne had just over 23,000 Chinese guest nights. In total, around 110,000 Chinese visitors arrived at Copenhagen Airport during the year. With new routes to Copenhagen, it is likely that more and more will also seek out Skåne. Generally, the Chinese traveler visits 3-5 countries on an 8-10 day round trip.

– We have collaborated with Wonderful Copenhagen for several years, including within the route development program Global Connected, and it is very important for Skåne that accessibility increases through new international flight routes, says Pia Jönsson Rajgård, CEO of Tourism in Skåne.

In the tourism collaboration within Greater Copenhagen, work is underway in several different tracks, which include joint efforts around Business Intelligence, marketing and destination development.

– Increased accessibility is central to strengthening tourism and business development in Greater Copenhagen, says Mikkel Aarø-Hansen, CEO of Wonderful Copenhagen.
