The number of passengers on Swedish domestic flights is the lowest since the financial crisis. So far this year, the drop is eight percent.

In September, the decrease was five percent compared to the same month last year, to 1,125,000 travelers, reports Swedavia.

The reasons are believed to be several: Taxes and fees, fuel prices – and the climate debate. Airlines such as SAS and BRA are now investing in biofuels and propeller aircraft, among other things, in the hope of halting the trend.
