Dorian is ”a historic tragedy” for the Bahamas, says Prime Minister Hubert Minnis.
The storm has now stopped over Grand Bahama, and information from affected islands is slowly trickling in. So far, five deaths have been confirmed on the Abaco Islands in the northeastern Bahamas, according to Minnis.
Dorian will soon begin moving west again, towards Florida, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in the US predicts. It is currently a Category 4 hurricane on the five-point Saffir-Simpson scale.
