Europe's major stock exchanges all pointed down a bit below the zero line at Wednesday's stock market close, and the combined regional Stoxx 600 index lost 0.3 percent.

The London-listed airline Easyjet, with a Swedish CEO, reported a 47 percent increase in passenger numbers in the fourth quarter compared to last year. The loss before tax was also a clear improvement of 133 million pounds compared to 213 million pounds a year earlier. The share rose 10 percent.
