It was the city of Dresden that had the honor of hosting the 2018 GTM from May 6th to 8th.
Germany's most important B2B platform attracted 527 experts and decision-makers from the international travel industry as well as international journalists from the most important source markets.
Participants were informed about the latest travel trends, new developments and current tourism products in Germany. During the two-day workshop at Messe Dresden, over 338 exhibitors from the hotel and transport sectors as well as local and regional tourism organisations met and presented their diverse and high-quality offerings to an international industry audience. Around 19,000 business meetings were booked via the trade fair's online tools. Participants were very positive about the well-organised event and praised the excellent organisation, the on-site service and the use of public transport.
Petra Hedorfer, Chairwoman of the GNTB, thanked the organizers and everyone who helped with the event for their brilliant effort:
– With a smooth organization and a friendly and personal atmosphere, the city of Dresden and the team responsible from Dresden Marketing GmbH have given this year's GTM a professional setting and have represented the travel country Germany in an excellent way.
”"Secondary cities" popular among Swedish travelers
Iris Müller, Marketing Manager for the German Tourist Office in Sweden, is convinced that the city of Dresden will benefit from this year's GTM also in the Swedish source market:
”The Swedish delegation that traveled to the host city of Dresden included two travel journalists, a representative from the German Tourist Office and 11 buyers – mainly from the bus and event travel industry as well as travel wholesalers. Dresden as a travel destination has so far been underrepresented on the Swedish market. The cultural city is often mentioned in combination with the German capital Berlin or the Czech capital Prague. The trend to discover ”secondary cities”, Dresden’s beauty such as the nearby natural area along the Elbe River with highlights such as Meissen, the historic castles along the river, Saxon Switzerland and the wine region formed a positive and updated perception of Dresden among many GTM participants. From Sweden, the easiest way to get to Dresden is by plane with a stopover in Frankfurt or Munich and by flying to Berlin and then taking a train or bus.”
