An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 has occurred near the Moluccas archipelago in eastern Indonesia, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reports.
The earthquake occurred just over eight kilometers northwest of the island of Ternate and at a depth of 15 kilometers below the seabed, which may have amplified its effect according to the USGS.
Indonesia lies along the so-called Ring of Fire, a vast area with high seismic activity and volcanoes.
