The British airline Easyjet, one of Ryanair's and Norwegian's competitors, is withdrawing from the process of saving the Italian airline Alitalia together with competitor Delta and the railway company Ferrovie dello Stato.

This is stated in a press release from Easyjet on Monday.

Last week, Italian newspaper La Stampa reported that Easyjet was pulling out of negotiations.

According to the newspaper, the reason was that the government wanted to push through a solution where a larger share of the airline is owned by state-owned Italian companies than is possible based on Easyjet's wishes, which is to break up the company into smaller parts.

”"We remain dedicated to Italy, which is a key market for our company," Easyjet writes.

Last week, there were also reports that the government was now moving forward with more state-owned stakeholders, including the postal company Poste Italiane, the investment company Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, the financial company Fintecna and Fincantieri. The privately listed shipbuilding company Fincantieri was also mentioned in La Stampa's reporting.
