British low-cost airline Easyjet's chief operating officer Peter Bellew is resigning from his post, the announcement comes after a series of flight cancellations and problems at the company in recent weeks, the BBC reports.
The airline said in a statement that Bellews was leaving to ”pursue other business opportunities.” Easyjet has been forced to cancel thousands of flights this summer due to staff shortages at Gatwick Airport, which is located just outside London.
The British union Unite claimed last month that there was a lack of leadership at Easyjet, and that Bellow should gain ”control of the situation”.
Easyjet's CEO is the Swede Johan Lundgren.
