Eleven seriously injured after flight chaos

A Hawaiian Airlines flight encountered severe turbulence on Sunday about half an hour before landing in Honolulu – which created chaos in the cabin.

Eleven people were reportedly seriously injured when turbulence caused passengers to be lifted from their seats.

A woman tells for the site Hawaii News Now that her mother flew up and hit the ceiling.

The plane, flight 35 from Phoenix, was able to land without any problems in Honolulu, where a large rescue mission was waiting to receive injured passengers.

There were 278 passengers and ten cabin crew members on board.

A total of 20 injured people were taken to the emergency room by ambulance.

An early theory is that the unexpected turbulence was created by a thunderstorm passing through the area.
