Entry restrictions for Chinese travelers lifted

The Swedish restrictions on entry from China will not be extended when they expire on Saturday, announced Minister of Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed (KD) at a press conference.

The entry restrictions came into effect on January 7 and have since been extended due to the situation in China.

”"We lacked a good picture of the situation in China, with the history of the pandemic, the safety measure became necessary," says Forssmed.

However, it is now no longer considered necessary.

”"The situation in China is becoming increasingly similar to that in the rest of the world and Sweden," says Karin Tegmark Wisell, Director General of the Public Health Agency of Sweden.

Entry restrictions have also applied to other EU countries, but these will be phased out during February, says Jakob Forssmed.

”No new variants of particular importance have been found in China,” he says.
