All passengers had boarded. Then the entire plane was evacuated. The reason: A police officer had brought live ammunition on board, writes People.
A Frontier Airlines plane was scheduled to fly from Denver to Phoenix on Sunday evening. However, as they were preparing for departure, passengers were suddenly informed that they had to disembark the plane immediately.
"They never told us why," says passenger Rashon Hammonds.
The reason the plane was evacuated was that a weapons magazine with live ammunition was found on board after airport staff ”missed it during check-in”, according to WBRC.
”Our preliminary investigation suggests that the magazine belongs to a police officer,” writes a spokesperson for the airline.
”Didn't get any instructions”
According to United States of AmericaThe Swedish Transport Agency requires passengers to declare all ammunition, and that firearms and ammunition must be stored in a locked container in checked baggage.
After the passengers had disembarked from the plane, they were checked again. The aircraft was also searched for additional ammunition on board, but none was found.
– We didn’t get any instructions afterwards, so everyone just stood there wondering, ”should we go back to the terminal and board the plane again?” And that’s when we got an email from Frontier saying that our flight was completely cancelled, says Rashon Hammonds.
The passengers were later rebooked onto another flight that departed early on Monday morning.
