The airline Air Berlin's insolvency administrator has sued the former owner Etihad Airways for up to two billion euros, equivalent to 20.5 billion kronor.
Etihad is being sued for breaching its financial commitments, according to documents filed in a Berlin court, Reuters writes.
It concerns Etihad's promise in April 2017 to financially support Air Berlin for the next 18 months. However, just a few months later, they chose to withdraw the support, citing that the airline's situation had drastically worsened.
According to the insolvency administrator, this was the death knell for Air Berlin, which was forced to file for bankruptcy protection in August 2017.
Etihad has not commented on the lawsuit, which it has the right to respond to until the end of January, according to the court.
