SAS will not have to pay compensation to passengers for canceled flights after the major strike in the spring of 2019. This is the Advocate General's proposal for a ruling in the Court of Justice of the EU.

A strike in this case is to be considered an extraordinary circumstance, for which the airline does not have to compensate passengers, according to a press release from the court.

The pilot strike resulted in the cancellation of 4,000 flights, affecting approximately 380,000 passengers. If all passengers had received the standardized compensation, it would have cost SAS, according to the airline's own calculations, around 117 million euros, or over one billion kronor.
