Face mask requirements for air travel may be introduced in the EU

According to the Reuters news agency, the European Commission wants to introduce requirements for face masks on board aircraft and at airports.

However, there will be no requirement for airlines to leave a possible middle seat vacant in each row to ensure that passengers keep their distance from each other.

Regarding infection control apps, it is emphasized that their introduction must be voluntary and the apps need to work across borders.

Today's guidelines for travel and tourism also urge EU member states to "take into account people's needs to meet family members and loved ones in other parts of the Schengen area," writes Reuters.
