From today, it is mandatory to wear a face mask in public places in the Belgian capital region of Brussels, regional authorities have announced.

The measure applies to all 19 municipalities in the region after it was found that more than 50 people were reported infected daily per 100,000 inhabitants. Police checks will ensure that the new rule is followed, reports Belgian The Evening.

Protective masks that cover the nose and mouth have been required in most indoor public places for everyone over the age of twelve since July 11.
