The SAS Group's scheduled passenger traffic, RPK, fell 89.51 percent in January, compared to the same month last year. This is evident from SAS's monthly statistics.
During the month of January, 280,000 passengers flew with SAS, a decrease of 28 percent compared to December, when demand was higher during the weekends. Compared to January last year, the number of passengers decreased by approximately 85 percent.
Compared to December, SAS's capacity decreased by 15 percent, which corresponds to a decrease of almost 78 percent compared to the previous year.
The cabin factor amounted to 30 percent, a decrease of approximately 3 percentage points compared to December and a full 37 percentage points compared to the previous year.
During the month of January, new travel restrictions were introduced in Scandinavia and within the rest of the EU region.
”"Reintroduced and expanded restrictions have significantly reduced demand for air travel, which has forced SAS to adapt both the destinations offered and departures to the prevailing conditions. The expanded restrictions mean that we assess that demand and thus our capacity will remain at low levels during the rest of the winter season," comments CEO Rickard Gustafson.
SAS's currency-adjusted yield, revenue per passenger kilometer, increased by 29.8 percent in January, compared to the same month last year.
The so-called currency-adjusted Pask level, passenger revenue in relation to regular available airline seats, was down 40.9 percent at the same time.
