There were almost 100,000 fewer Norwegians who spent the night in Sweden during the first three months of the year compared to the same period last year, according to statistics from the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth.

The weak performance of the Norwegian krone may be the reason behind this. It has gradually lost value against the Swedish krona since its peak in 2009, and is worth less than one Swedish krona today.

”Norwegian tourists are also usually in Sweden to shop,” says Dieter Müller, vice-chancellor and tourism researcher at Umeå University.
