Train traffic between Helsinki in Finland and St. Petersburg in Russia will be stopped starting Monday, the train company VR announced in a press release.
The last train to St. Petersburg leaves on Sunday morning, reports Swedish Yle.
”"Until now, we have maintained the Allegro service according to the authorities' directives - the purpose was to secure Finns' access to Finland. In recent weeks, people who wanted to leave Russia have had time to do so," says Topi Simola, Head of VR's Passenger Services, in the press release.
Finland shares a 1,300-kilometer border with its neighbor to the east, and the train connection between St. Petersburg and Helsinki has been one of the last reliable routes for Russian citizens wanting to reach the EU.
