Finnair continued its positive development in May 2026. The airline carried 1.09 million passengers, an increase of 7.4 percent compared to the same month last year. At the same time, both the cabin factor and revenue per seat kilometer improved.
Total capacity remained essentially at the same level as the previous year, while traffic measured in passenger kilometers increased by 6.2 percent. The cabin factor rose by 5.1 percentage points to 77.6 percent.
The strongest development was noted in Asian traffic, where the number of passengers increased by 15.3 percent. European traffic also developed positively, with an increase of 9.7 percent. In contrast, traffic across the North Atlantic decreased by 1.6 percent, mainly due to fewer departures to Seattle and Dallas.
Flights to the Middle East have remained suspended since February 28 due to the security situation in the region.
Revenue per available seat kilometer (RASK) increased by a full 17.7 percent, which Finnair explains with a higher cabin factor and improved ticket revenue.
Freight operations also developed positively. Total freight volume increased by 4.3 percent to just over 13,000 tonnes, with Europe and Asia accounting for the largest growth.
Punctuality also improved slightly. In May, 82.8 percent of Finnair's flights arrived on schedule, compared to 80.6 percent in the same period last year.
After the first five months of the year, Finnair has transported nearly five million passengers, an increase of 7.1 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
