Finnair's air traffic is collapsing by 99 percent in the war-torn Middle East. But despite the setback, the airline's total traffic grew, new figures reveal.

Passenger numbers in the Middle East fell by 99.1 percent in March, new figures released by Finnair on Thursday morning show. The revenue passenger kilometres metric recorded a similar decline.

The setback comes as a result of the Iran war, which has forced many airlines to cancel flights in the region due to high risks.

But despite the traffic setback in the Middle East, Finnair increased its total traffic in March. For example, the number of passengers grew by 10.8 percent while revenue passenger kilometers rose by 15.7 percent.
