Finnair's November traffic amounted to 751,000 passengers, which is an increase of 54 percent compared to the same month a year earlier, according to a press release.

The number of passengers in November was 13.4 percent lower than in October, but the comparison is somewhat flawed as November contains one less day. In addition, a strike at Helsinki Airport had an impact by canceling 100 flights during November.

Traffic is also continuing to be affected by the pandemic, which is particularly evident in the figures for Asia. The closure of Russian airspace since the end of February, a Russian countermeasure to Western sanctions against the country following its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, has also led to the closure of routes to Asia. Despite the longer routes, however, Finnair FIA1S -0.52% has been able to continue flying cargo to Asia, given high demand.

However, the negative impact on passenger traffic in Asia was clear in November, Finnair notes.

Capacity, measured as available seat kilometers (ASK), grew by 24.9 percent compared to the same month a year earlier but decreased by 10.9 percent compared to October.

Revenue per passenger kilometer increased by 93.6 percent compared to November last year but decreased by 12.4 percent compared to October.
