Finnish airline Finnair reports an operating profit of -60 million euros for the fourth quarter of 2021. Analysts had expected -91 million euros, according to Infront's forecast compilation.
Finnair's net sales amounted to 414 million euros. Expectations were 343 million euros.
Finnair's operations continue to be dampened by pandemic restrictions, especially in Asia, the company writes in the forecast section of the interim report for the third quarter.
Based on the increased vaccination rate, Finnair predicts that many Asian markets (Thailand, Singapore and India have already eased restrictions) will open to travelers at a more significant level towards the end of the second quarter of 2022, except for China, which is more uncertain due to the spread of the omicron virus variant.
”"We predict that beyond China and Hong Kong, next summer will look like a more normal operating environment, despite the fact that the opening of Asia has been delayed compared to our previous expectations," says CEO Topi Manner.
The CEO continues to follow that 2022 will probably be more predictable.
