The three unions of the Finnish Airline Union IAU and the Finnish Transport Workers' Union AKT have announced the industrial action. According to the unions, the industrial action is politically motivated and concerns the role of the Finnish state in the shareholder nomination board.

Finnair is expected to have to cancel approximately 70 flights, which is estimated to affect approximately 6,500 of the company's customers. The strike will affect Helsinki-Vantaa Airport.

”"The effects of these industrial action on our customers are disproportionate – approximately 6,500 customers will have to change their travel plans when flights have to be cancelled. We will do our very best to offer a suitable new route to everyone," Finnair's Chief Operating Officer Jaakko Schildt said in a press release.
