Shipping company Finnlines launched its new route between Malmö and Świnoujście in April earlier this year. The line has now been successfully operated for six months and is expected to generate further volume growth.

Päivi Laine, Finland's Ambassador to Poland, visited Finnlines' freight and passenger terminal in Świnoujście, Poland, on 27 September 2024. The hosts of the visit were Finnlines Deputy CEO Thomas Doepel, Finnlines Poland's Managing Director Rafał Kwapisz and Finnlines Marine Manager Anders Hamming.

In response to growing market demand
After an extensive development process, Finnlines opened a new connection between Malmö and Świnoujście on April 10, 2024. The launch was celebrated in May with an inauguration ceremony on board the ferry Finnfellow, which operates the route daily.

The new route has been developed in response to customer needs. Traffic between Sweden and Poland has increased in recent years, which is in line with Poland's economic growth, which is one of the strongest in Europe. Swedish companies also have a strong presence in Poland, which is evident on the well-trafficked sea route between Sweden and Poland.

The geopolitical situation and the subsequent trade freeze with Russia have affected the market. Despite this, there are clear signs that the market is recovering," says Finnlines Vice President and Deputy CEO Thomas Doepel.

The line's first six months of operation have shown satisfactory volumes.

Finnlines' route between Sweden and Poland marks the shipping company's second introduction to the region, after almost 30 years of successful operations on the route between Finland and Poland.

The route between Sweden and Poland connects the West Pomerania region in Poland with Malmö, Sweden's third largest city. Malmö offers convenient connections to other parts of Sweden as well as to Denmark. Finnlines has been operating from Malmö since 2002 and, in addition to the new Poland route, offers daily scheduled services to Travemünde in Germany.
