On Monday, August 22, 2022, a new chapter in Jönköping Airport's history began when an electric aircraft took off and landed at the airport for the first time. The aircraft, owned by the Czech company Pureflight, had been transported to Jönköping to participate in the Electric Flight Tour 2022. A tour organized by SRF (Svenska Regionala Flygplatser AB) and the Green Airport project.

The day began in the morning with a number of lectures on the green transition of aviation to a curious audience consisting of politicians from both Jönköping Municipality and Jönköping County Region, as well as the business community. The audience listened to representatives from Heart Aerospace, SRF, Grön Flygplats, Fly Green Fund and Footprint Level.

– Fantastic start to our electric flight tour with interested participants in Jönköping. It is valuable to have the opportunity to come out and talk about the transition aviation is going through, says Mari Torstensson, Project Manager Green Airport.

After the lectures, it was time for Pureflight to make a presentation and demonstration of their electric aircraft. A smaller aircraft with space for two people including the pilot and with a range of about 300km (2.5h flight time).

A number of people had received an invitation in advance to join them on a test ride in the electric plane. First up and the passenger who became the first to take off in an electric plane from Jönköping Airport was Jönköping County Governor Helena Jonsson. The day had great significance for the airport:

– Fantastic fun and a good opportunity for us to present the extensive sustainability work that is taking place in the aviation industry. Finally seeing an electric aircraft take off from Jönköping shows in a concrete way that the future is here, says Sofie Hagman, CEO of Jönköping Airport.
