Air traffic in the US continues to be greatly affected by poor weather conditions and increased spread of the new omicron variant.
By 11 a.m. Saturday, 2,723 flights had been canceled in the United States, and by 8:30 a.m. Sunday, 1,742 flights had been canceled, according to flight tracker Flightaware. This compares to the total number of canceled flights worldwide today: 2,919.
A snowstorm that has swept over Chicago has caused hundreds of flights to be canceled on Sunday alone.
In addition, many flights have been canceled due to high sick leave among cabin crew and pilots who have either contracted COVID-19, or who are in quarantine after meeting infected people, which has contributed to the chaotic traffic situation.
