The charter passengers on the flight from cold and wintry Umeå were sun-hungry – but the plane was unexpectedly thirsty for fuel.
Therefore, the vacationers had a surprise stopover in Faro, Portugal, where the aircraft's tanks were filled before the journey could continue to Gran Canaria on Saturday evening, writes Västerbottens-Kuriren.
The plane took off from Umeå at 4:15 p.m. and was scheduled to fly to Las Palmas. However, it was unexpectedly forced to land earlier when the fuel gauges were running down too quickly.
The press office at the organizer Vingresor tells TT that the reason was that strong winds caused much greater fuel consumption than expected. The plane was 54 minutes late when it finally arrived in Gran Canaria, according to Vingresor.
