An operation is underway at Arlanda after an alarm about a tire explosion on a passenger plane.

The alarm was received just before 10 a.m.

– It was during takeoff that the tires on the plane exploded, for an unclear reason, says Marcus Clemert, rescue leader at the Maritime and Air Traffic Control Center (JRCC), to TV4 Nyheterna.

The plane, a Boeing 737 that was en route to Paris, is in the air and will shortly make a so-called "flyover", i.e. fly past the runway at low altitude for an inspection, according to JRCC.

– At the same time, we are working to sweep the runway so that the plane can try to land again, he continues.

Police, ambulance and rescue services are at the scene.
