A plane that left Newark Airport in the United States this weekend en route to Palma, Spain, had to turn around over the Atlantic and fly back again for an emergency landing. This is reported New York Post.
After the emergency landing and an evacuation, all passengers were able to board the plane again, which took off for Europe, albeit with new cabin crew.
And theoretically, there was absolutely reason to worry.
Sixteen-year-old behind the "threat"”
In the air, it was discovered that a Bluetooth device on board was named ”Bomb.” Passengers were asked to turn off all their phones, computers, tablets, and so on – but apparently the Bluetooth device was still there. NPR refers to social media posts from alleged passengers, who claim that staff said over the public address system that ”this little joke is ruining everyone’s trip.”.
So the plane returned to the US and was investigated. No bomb was found.
However, the Bluetooth device was found and it was not at all a poorly concealed attempt at a potential terrorist act. Because the ”bomb” was actually the name – of a Fitbit watch. Which belonged to a sixteen-year-old traveler.
The teenager is not the subject of a local police investigation, but sources tell the New York Post that the FBI is investigating the incident.
