The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises Swedes against traveling to Kazakhstan, due to the unrest that is ongoing there.

The advice applies until further notice to all "non-essential" travel, the ministry announced. The decision was made on Thursday.

Protests have raged in Kazakhstan since the New Year's holiday. What began as an expression of discontent over rising fuel prices has escalated into widespread violence, with government buildings stormed and many protesters killed.
