The Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs advises against non-essential travel to the Rubavu district in Rwanda. The decision was made on Tuesday with reference to the security situation and is valid until further notice, the press release states.

Ruvabu, located in the northwestern parts of Rwanda, borders the neighboring country of Congo-Kinshasa, where fighting has intensified in recent days between the country's military and the M23 rebel group.

Rwanda's second largest city, Gisenyi, with a quarter of a million inhabitants, is located in the affected district. The city is adjacent to the city of Goma, a city of a million people on the other side of the border, which M23 claims control over.
