The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is reinstating the advice against non-essential travel to Norway. The decision is in effect until further notice.

The government is also expected to make a decision on entry bans.

Interior Minister Mikael Damberg (S) has announced a digital press conference at 2:30 p.m. There he is expected to announce that the government has decided to ban entry from Norway to reduce the risk of spreading the infection.

On Saturday, the Norwegian government introduced a series of very strict restrictions in Oslo and nine other municipalities. The reason is the increased spread of the virus variant (B117) that was first discovered in the United Kingdom.

”"From the beginning, it was not so certain whether the variant was really more contagious, but now more and more evidence shows it," Joacim Rocklöv, professor of epidemiology and public health sciences at Umeå University, told TT on Saturday.

Do you see any reason for Swedish measures in this situation?
”"It's the same thing in Sweden. We need to sequence more and get a handle on how much of it is here."”

”"If it has already made its way into Sweden, it just needs to slow down, otherwise it will be very difficult at the end of the winter."”

55 Swedish B117 cases are known after sampling freely in the community. But that sampling has not been that extensive.

Both Denmark and Norway are conducting more analyses of DNA sequences, which show whether the coronavirus has mutated, points out Joacim Rocklöv.
