The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to remove its global travel advisory from October 1.

It was introduced due to the pandemic in the spring of 2020.

”"The travel advice for all countries in the world was an extraordinary measure in a difficult and unpredictable time. The ambition has always been to lift the advice as soon as possible and we believe that we have reached that point now," says Foreign Minister Ann Linde (S) in a press release.

However, she reminds us that the pandemic is not over, which still affects travel.

The global travel advisory was introduced in March 2020 due to the pandemic. It was the first time such an advisory covered the entire world.

However, as the infection situation has improved, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has lifted the advice, especially for European countries. However, a number of other countries have also been exempted recently.

From October 1, the advice from the remaining countries will be lifted.

There are hopes in the travel industry that the lifting of the global travel advisory will further boost travel bookings for the autumn and Christmas holidays. Taking trips that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against may limit travel insurance.

Linde reminds in the press release that travelers continue to have a great responsibility to find out for themselves what applies at their destination and to follow the rules and recommendations that exist.

”"Although there is no longer a broad recommendation against travel due to the pandemic, there are still restrictions in many countries that can affect travel, such as requirements for face masks, presentation of negative PCR tests or vaccination certificates," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs writes in the press release.

In some countries, entry bans for foreign travelers are still in effect.
