France must demand back the equivalent of almost 20 million kronor that has gone to illegal state aid to Ryanair, via the airport in Carcassonne.
The demand comes from the European Commission after a review of multi-million-dollar aid to the airport in southern France between 2001 and 2011.
Most of the support, which has gone to modernizing the airport, is given the go-ahead by the EU. However, various agreements regarding marketing and other services that are considered to have given Ryanair an advantage over other companies are being reviewed.
At the same time, the Commission emphasizes that this is not a matter of fines, but simply a way to restore balance.
