160,000 young people will be offered free SL cards this summer. The aim is to try to attract more travelers who chose not to use public transport during the pandemic. The campaign applies to all children born between 2004 and 2010 who are registered in Stockholm County.
The SL cards will be distributed by post to young people who are entitled to the summer card. The offer is valid from 1 June to 30 August.
The Social Democrats have been pushing the issue of free summer passes for several years and welcome the reform, but also believe that it could have been implemented earlier.
– I am a little worried that this is just election gimmicks ahead of the 2022 election. From our side, we see that this must be a permanent investment that will also apply in the future, says Jens Sjöström (S), opposition regional councilor for traffic issues.
