Several railway stations in central London are expected to reopen soon after being closed since last night due to a large gas leak, the train company Southeastern announced.

The closures affect, among other things, the major train hub Charing Cross.
When the alarm went off at two o'clock last night, surrounding properties were emptied of thousands of people, according to the London police.

The leak was located on little Craven Street between Charing Cross and the River Thames. High levels of natural gas were measured in the air during the morning rush hour. The area is located in the West End entertainment district in the heart of the British capital, and evacuations are reported from both hotels and nightclubs.

According to authorities, they now want to be sure that everything is cleared before the blockades are lifted.
