Cabin crew at Germanwings, a subsidiary of Lufthansa, are expected to begin a three-day strike on Monday morning. Last-ditch efforts to reach an agreement failed over the weekend when the cabin crew union rejected the company's new mediation proposal, Reuters reports.

The strike comes in the midst of the busy New Year's travel season. A total of around 170 flights are affected until Wednesday. These are mainly domestic German flights, but some flights to Austria and Switzerland are also affected, according to the news site Focus.
