The German government sold part of its holding in Lufthansa on Wednesday. The country's stabilization fund WSF thereby reduced its ownership from 14.1 percent to below 10 percent, several media outlets report.

WSF pumped €6 billion into Lufthansa during the pandemic, building its stake to around 20 percent. The fund plans to sell the remaining shares by October 2023.

Lufthansa has risen around 2.8 percent on the news during the day.

It is not only in Germany that the state is leaving the aviation sector after the pandemic. In Sweden and Norway, the governments have stated that they do not intend to support SAS with more capital through new issues.
