Shortly before 03:00, mountain rescuers reached three German tourists who had been trapped in severe weather on Kebnekaise. The men are German citizens aged 25-35.
The alarm came at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Mountain rescuers have been called out to rescue the people in distress who reported early in the evening that they were freezing.
They are located somewhere between Singistugorna and Kebnekaise mountain station.
– It's quite windy up in the mountains and these people are having a hard time setting up their tent and can't cook the food they brought with them. They have said they are very cold, says Marie Andersson at the police.
The police are in contact with the people in distress by phone. They are freezing but say they are "in good health," according to the police. There is a class 2 storm warning in the area and the weather is very severe.
At 11:25 p.m., the mountain rescuers had arrived at Kebnekaise mountain station and were on their way to the location where the men were. Visibility was reportedly very poor, according to the police.
Around 1:00 a.m., the police announced that the mountain rescuers were near the location where the men were believed to be, but that they still had not found them and that visibility was still very poor.
At 02:43, mountain rescuers reach the three Germans and announce that they are to be transported back to Kebnekaise mountain station. The conditions are very bad and four more mountain rescuers have to go out to assist.
