With demands for a wage increase of over ten percent, major unions are trying to paralyze Germany today. Commuting, trains and flights are being hit hard by nationwide strikes.
The Verdi and EVG unions base their hard line on the inflation and all price increases affecting large parts of Europe. They demand that wage increases be at least 500 euros (5,600 SEK) per month.
Train traffic is almost completely canceled. "DB's long-distance and regional traffic is canceled on March 27," the major train operator Deutsche Bahn states on its website.
Domestic flights are also largely halted, according to the German airports' websites. However, international flights are operating, albeit with some delays.
