But on Friday, the company announced that it had decided to end the fight because the process had taken so long, writes Upsala Nya Tidning.

”"We have been working for this for 15 years, but the general meeting decided that it is over now," Frode Skulbru, CEO of Uppsala Airport, tells the newspaper.

The company has claimed since 2004 that commercial traffic would lead to many benefits for Uppsala, but there have been many opponents to the plans and almost every decision in the process has been appealed.

In 2013, the then conservative coalition government agreed to the plans for civil aviation. Since then, decisions on building permits have been appealed and revoked. The process has been costly for Uppsala Airport.

”"The whole process feels very boring. We still think it's a good plan, but now it's not working anymore," says Frode Skulbru.
