Global air traffic, measured in RPK, was up 7.6 percent in February compared to the same month the previous year.
This is stated by the international aviation organization IATA.
During the same month, capacity, measured in ASK, increased by 6.3 percent while the load factor was up 0.9 percentage points to 80.4 percent. This also surpassed the record for that month after the load factor reached 79.5 percent in February 2017.
IATA comments on February as an expected return to growth after the temporary decline in January. What has driven air traffic is a strong economy, although potential dips in some countries are seen going forward due to increased fuel and labor costs.
Broken down by region, Asia-Pacific grew the most with an RPK of 10.1 percent, while Africa was the weakest in the class with an increase of 2.1 percent.
