Total traffic in October, measured in revenue per passenger kilometer (RPK), increased by 44.6 percent compared to October 2021. Globally, traffic corresponds to 74.2 percent of the level from October 2019, writes IATA.
Domestic traffic has returned to a somewhat lower extent, measuring 72 percent of pre-pandemic levels.
The forward booking situation for airlines looks positive, signaling continued recovery, writes IATA.
”"Traditionally, the slower autumn season in the northern hemisphere begins in October. Therefore, it is encouraging that we see demand and bookings continuing so strongly. It bodes well for the upcoming winter season and the continued recovery," says General Manager Willie Walsh.
