On Tuesday, Göta Canal opens for the season and the destination is seeing a positive visitor trend. According to the canal company, the number of boats booked is a record high and those arriving by land are also expected to be many.
The uncertainty surrounding the summer and the pandemic is certainly playing a role as last year's homestay trend, where more people are choosing destinations in Sweden, looks set to continue.
– Many Swedes are planning a vacation at home this summer and we see that there is great interest in an active vacation in nature, says Roger Altsäter, CEO of Göta Kanalbolag.
The canal company also points out several trends for the summer, alongside more traditional boat holidays, cycling and hiking, there is also a trend in luxury and nature life. Where comfort is important, accommodation and food more exclusive.
