Gothenburg is included on Time magazine's list of extraordinary travel destinations in 2021.

It is the first time a Swedish city has been included on the “World's Greatest Places” list compiled by Times.

The list, now in its third year, highlights 100 extraordinary travel destinations around the world. The places on the list are selected by the Times' network of correspondents. However, the list took a hiatus in 2020 for understandable reasons.

In its justification, Time mentions, among other things, the city's 400th anniversary, the City Museum's exhibition on Gothenburg, and the sustainability focus that Gothenburg has, as well as the new Hisingsbron Bridge.

A couple of Swedish destinations have appeared on previous lists, such as Ice Hotel and Tree Hotel on the 2018 list, but no Swedish city.
