Gotlandsbolaget, a passenger shipping company and parent company of Destination Gotland, has purchased M/S Birka Stockholm from Rederiaktiebolaget Eckerö for approximately EUR 38 million. The vessel will be used in traffic between Stockholm, Mariehamn and Visby.

This is stated in a press release.

”"Birka Stockholm is a pure passenger ship, and we see great opportunities for her to complement Gotlandtrafiken. In 2022, we continued to refine our fleet to focus on infrastructure and future shipping. With Birka Stockholm, we further consolidate our position in passenger shipping in the Baltic Sea," comments CEO Håkan Johansson.

The plan is for operations to start in the spring of 2024 and work to develop the organization and offering will begin immediately.
