The government wants to allocate SEK 318 million to loss-making regional airports.

It is important for the whole of Sweden to function but also from a preparedness perspective, says Minister of Infrastructure Andreas Carlson (KD) to SVT.

The government is proposing in the 2026 budget that regional airports receive an additional 318 million kronor, reports SVT. This means that state support will increase to 528 million kronor per year.

We are investing a lot of money to facilitate the operation of these socially important airports, says Andreas Carlson.

Since 2022, support for regional airports has increased from SEK 103 million.

The country's 33 non-state airports, often owned by municipalities and regions, are struggling with profitability. According to Swedish Regional Airports (SRF), the combined loss amounted to almost 700 million kronor last year. The forecast for this year points to a total operating deficit of over 800 million kronor.

The budget for 2026 will be presented in its entirety on September 22. According to Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson (M), there is room for reform of SEK 80 billion.
